Recent flooding events in southeast Minnesota, southwest Wisconsin, northern Iowa, and northern Illinois have caused millions of dollars in property damage and unfortunately have taken many lives. Technological advances in river and rain gauging, real-time telemetry, and the internet make it possible to remotely monitor sensitive hydrologic locations in your community allowing for better situational awareness and more effective decision-making.

The workshop is intended for community leaders representing municipal governments with emergency or water management responsibilities as well as those from state, regional, and national agencies.

Information to be presented include:

  • Services available from the National Hydrologic Warning Council
  • Features and benefits of advanced hydrologic warning systems
  • Vendor demonstrations and discussions
  • Best practices and advice from communities that already use hydrologic warning systems
  • How hydrologic warning systems integrate with the NWS Flood Warning Services
  • Flood Insurance and Grant opportunities that may be available
