Flood warning systems operated along Colorado's Front Range are credited with saving hundreds of lives during the devastating floods of September 2013. This is the direct result of the region's four decade long commitment to improved flood risk management.
How do we build on the recent flood warning system success in Colorado? To learn how, join the National Hydrologic Warning Council (NHWC) for a workshop on advanced flood warning system technologies. The workshop is scheduled for Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at the Omni Interlocken Hotel in Denver (Broomfield), Colorado.
Audience The workshop is designed for floodplain managers, owners and operators of existing hydrologic warning systems, river authorities, emergency managers, flood control districts, public works officials, owners and operators of high hazard dams and levees, drainage and flood control engineers, and any others who have a need to better understand the benefits of hydrologic warning systems in managing flood risk.
Focus Forward-looking presentations and discussions will explore new advances in weather and precipitation forecasting, instrumentation, hydrologic modeling, and warning communication; with emphasis on enhancing the existing flood warning infrastructure along the Front Range.  New! View the agenda here.
The Advanced Flood Warning System Workshop is scheduled to complement the 2013 Colorado Flood Forum, which will be held on the following day, Thursday February 27, 2014, also at the Omni Resort in Broomfield. The Colorado Flood Forum is co-presented by the Colorado Association of Stormwater and Floodplain Managers (CASFM) and the Colorado State University (CSU). The forum will feature speakers focusing on the historic 2013 Colorado floods.
Please join the NHWC, CASFM, and CSU to review the epic September floods and to explore the advanced flood warning system technologies that will help Front Range communities be even better prepared for future floods.
6.5 CECs have been approved for Certified Floodplain Managers who attend the workshop.
