Workshop Presentations: Presentations are divided into 5 sections. The presentations from each section have been condensed into one pdf file. 

Purpose: This 2-day workshop will focus on dam safety with a concurrent track on hydrologic warning system field technician training. Dam operators and safety experts will discuss several topics relating to the safe operation of dams across the state as well as current issues, regulations, and the affect of the extended drought conditions on dam safety. Additionally, the workshop will host extensive training for hydrological field technicians with a presentation on ALERT2, along with vendor  presentations on their currently available products such as transmitters, tipping buckets, and water level devices. Several agencies including Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA), Harris County Flood Control District (HCFCD), U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), and Tarrant Regional Water District (TRWD) will showcase their hydrologic warning system maintenance operations.

Audience: This two-day workshop is sponsored by the National Hydrologic Warning Council (NHWC), the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA), and the Harris County Flood Control District (HCFCD) and is designed for: Dam operators, flood warning system operators and field technicians, public works, river authorities, flood control and water management districts, meteorologists, hydrologists, engineers, policy makers, and any others who have a need to better understand the benefits of hydrologic warning systems in managing flood risk.

Registration: To compensate for the weak economy, the NHWC has held registration rates steady since 2010. Reduced rates are available for those who register early. Full registration includes light breakfast and lunch each day.

A discounted group rate of $108 per night (plus tax) has been set up under National Hydrologic Warning Council for check-in 11/12/12 and check-out 11/14/12. Reservations can be made by calling 800-222-8733 and mentioning the group name or by visiting


On the DoubleTree website, after choosing the dates on the main webpage, click on the “have a special code?”link on the left side of the screen. Type in the group code NHW in order to pull up the discounted rate. Be sure to choose the Nat’l Hydrologic rate beneath the room type.
